NICARAGUA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A strong 6.1 magnitude earthquake has shaken western Nicaragua.

At least 23 people were injured overnight by falling ceilings, beams and walls in the hardest hit town of Nagarote.

The earthquake caused panic as people began to run in crowds into the streets.

About 100 homes have been damaged and landslides are blocking two highways just south of the country's capital.
