Searchers close in on wreckage of missing flight

INDIAN OCEAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - There is developing news in the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

Investigators say they are closer than ever to finding the wreckage in the Indian Ocean.

"We have very much narrowed down the search area and we are very confident that the signals that we are detecting are from the black box on MH370," said Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

He also brought up the sobering reminder that time is running out. The batteries which emit the signals only last about 30 days.

Also, the area of the Indian Ocean being searched is more than 15,000 feet deep.

A U.S. Navy black box detector has picked up four underwater signals over the past week.
