Virgin Galactic to start space trips this year

NEW MEXICO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - If you've ever wanted to head into space, here's your chance.

Virgin Galactic hopes to start offering commercial flights into space by the second half of this year.

The company says it has already collected $80-million in deposits and sold 680 tickets, each costing $250,000.

The space plane will take off from the company's spaceport in New Mexico.

It will climb to the upper edges of the atmosphere where travelers will experience weightlessness.

All it needs now is its final commercial license from the Federal Aviation Administration.
