IED found at Anchorage Airport

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Special agents at the Anchorage Airport say an item found in an oil worker's carry-on luggage was an improvised explosive device.

The unidentified man told the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives he uses homemade explosives for avalanche control and didn't intend to bring it on board the plane Sunday.

ATF officials confirm there was no "malicious intent" behind the device, but agents did find four similar devices in the man's home.

If the agency determines those are destructive, the man could face charges.
