Air Force officers accused of cheating

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - 34 Air Force officers responsible for the deadliest weapons in the world have been pulled off the job for their roles in an alleged cheating scandal.

Pentagon officials say in September a launch officer at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana allegedly texted other officers' answers to a monthly proficiency test.

"The Air Force has to look at not only what's happening within that silo, they've got to look at the commanders probably two levels up to see what would make these people think they could get away with this," said Maj. Mike Lyons, CBS News Military Analyst.

The officers have been removed from missile crew duty and their security clearances suspended.

Every launch officer in the Air Force is being re-tested this week.
