Bomb scare evacuates airport
LOS ANGELES (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Just days after a deadly shooting at LAX, a bomb scare evacuated the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport in Alabama.
An employee found a note in a bathroom Sunday saying there was a bomb in the airport.
That lead to a complete evacuation as police and bomb dogs searched every inch of the airport, only to find nothing. It took more than two hours for the airport to reopen.
Many incoming flights were diverted and departing flights were delayed.
"It's a big inconvenience to everyone involved, those passengers, those visitors, our officers the airport employees," said Sgt. Johnny Williams of the Birmingham Police Dept.
"It did impact flights. We had about - it impacted about 500 passengers, well over a dozen flights," said Toni Herrera-Bast of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.
Police say they weren't taking any chances after Friday's tragic incident in Los Angeles.
