Jurors wanted child abuse charges against Ramseys
DENVER (AP) - DNA tests have since suggested that JonBenet Ramsey was killed by a stranger, not a family member, but court documents released today show that a grand jury indicted her parents earlier in the investigation.
The 6-year-old was found bludgeoned and strangled in her Colorado home on Dec. 26, 1996.
The indictment against John and Patsy Ramsey came in 1999 for child abuse and being an accessory to a crime. But the district attorney at the time declined to press charges, saying his team did not have sufficient evidence.
The indictments released today did not say who killed the girl.
The document alleges both parents intended to delay or prevent the arrest of the alleged killer.
