Preparations made for storm arrival
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - River traffic at the mouth of the Mississippi has been stopped in advance of the arrival of Tropical Storm Karen.
It's expected to bring strong winds and rainfall of 3 to 6 inches through Sunday night.
Forecast tracks show it possibly brushing or crossing the southeast Louisiana coast before veering eastward toward southern Alabama and the Florida panhandle.
Karen was weakening but still ready to become the first named storm to hit the U.S. in what has been a quiet hurricane season.
National Hurricane Center forecasters expect Karen to be near the central Gulf Coast on Saturday as a weak hurricane or tropical storm.
