Judge tosses lawsuit over student's suspension
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Massachusetts judge rejected a lawsuit after a family claimed a teenager was being unfairly punished for trying to help a friend make it home safe after a night drinking.
17-year-old Erin Cox was stripped of her volleyball captain title and suspended for five games after the North Andover school district found out she was at a party where there was alcohol and drugs.
Her parents say she was only picking someone up, and police have corroborated that story.
But the district is sticking by its Zero Tolerance policy, and the judge says the court doesn't have jurisdiction over the issue.
