Family hopes dash cam video will lead to charges in man's death
DeLAND, Fla. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The family of a man run over and killed by a police officer is hoping that dash-cam video will lead to criminal charges.
The video, which may be unsuitable for all viewers, features footage of Marlon Brown running from police in Florida on May 8th.
Officers say they began chasing Brown because he was not wearing a seat belt.
The video above begins after Officer James Harris drove past two other police cars which had stopped.
He continued to chase Brown into a grass lot and the video seems to show Harris running over Brown, killing him.
"This is the hardest decision that we've had to make, but we're hoping that everyone's going to take a look at the video; the objective evidence, and you tell us what you think," said Brown's ex-wife Krystal.
Last week, a grand jury decided not to indict Officer Harris on a criminal charge of vehicular manslaughter, which is why the family decided to release the video to push for other charges.
However, the officer was fired as a result of the incident.
