Dozens rally to save East Campus
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Dozens of people rallied Thursday morning, trying to save Western Michigan University's historic East Campus.
They gathered in front of the Bernhard Center, some from out of state, looking to hold off on demolition planned to start soon.
The university says it's spending about $250,000 a year to maintain those empty buildings on East Campus and that's just not an option anymore.
The school's president says at least part of East Hall will be saved and will become an alumni center.
They will start tearing down the other three buildings in the coming weeks.
