High School Football Preview - Battle Creek Pennfield story image

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Week one of high school preseason practice is about getting back in the swing, with the opener weeks away.

In week 2, it's starting to get real, and high school football teams take things up a notch.

In this installment of our preseason previews, we take a look at the Panthers of Battle Creek-Pennfield, where change is in the air--in a big way.

Not only are the Panthers moving to a new league--the Interstate Eight--they're also breaking in a new coach.

Long-time assistant coach Mike McGuire takes over for Nick Koenigsknecht, who stepped down last spring.

McGuire follows a man who went 130-34 in 15 seasons.

He says Pennfield will still rely on the ground game, but we can expect a few new wrinkles.

The Panthers open the season August 30, at Olivet, before jumping into the new league.
