MSU Coaches address ESPN allegations

ON ANY OTHER NIGHT... A 15 POINT WIN BY TOM IZZO'S SPARTANS WOULD BE OUR LEAD STORY.

BUT THIS IS NOT ANY OTHER NIGHT.

MICHIGAN STATE ROCKED THIS WEEK BY THE FALLOUT FROM THE LARRY NASSAR SCANDAL, WITH SCHOOL PRESIDENT LOU ANNA SIMON AND A-D MARK HOLLIS BOTH STEPPING DOWN.

THEN TODAY...A PAIR OF BOMBSHELL REPORTS.

ACCORDING TO A LATE REPORT ON THE ATHLETIC.COM...NCAA PRESIDENT MARK EMMERT WAS ALERTED TO 37 REPORTS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT BY MICHIGAN STATE ATHLETES...BACK IN 2010.

THAT REPORT PRECEEDED BY A SIMILAR BOMBSHELL FROM ESPN'S 'OUTSIDE THE LINES' INVESTIGATIVE TEAM.

O-T-L DETAILING QUOTE "NEVER BEFORE PUBLICIZED REPORTS OF SEXUAL OR VIOLENT INCIDENTS INVOLVING THE MSU BASKETBALL PROGRAM".

A LIST WHICH INCLUDES REPORTED SEXUAL ASSAULTS BY THEN ASSISTANT COACH TRAVIS WALTON, AND A SEPARATE INCIDENT INVOLVING STAR PLAYERS ADREIAN PAYNE AND KEITH APPLING.

COACH IZZO READING A SHORT, PREPARED STATEMENT AFTER TONIGHT'S WIN OVER WISCONSIN

AS FOR MARK DANTONIO...ESPN ALSO REPORTING THAT 16 MSU FOOTBALL PLAYERS HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, OR VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN SINCE DANTONIO'S TENURE BEGAN IN 2007...WHICH IS PARTICULARLY NOTEWORTHY BECAUSE DANTONIO SAID IN JUNE QUOTE "THIS IS NEW GROUND FOR US. WE'VE BEEN HERE 11 YEARS, IT HAS NOT HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY".

ESPN ALSO REPORTING THAT DANTONIO MADE A RECRUIT CALL HIS MOTHER AS PUNISHMENT FOR AN ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT.

DANTONIO DENIED THAT SPECIFIC ALLEGATION IN AN EARLY EVENING PRESS CONFERENCE, WHILE ALSO SAYING HE HAS NO PLANS ON STEPPING DOWN.
