Kalamazoo Central player named best in Michigan
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The best high school basketball player in the state lives in West Michigan.
Kalamazoo Central Senior Isaiah Livers traveled to Detroit on Monday to pick up a very coveted award. On Monday Livers was named Michigan’s 2017 Mr. Basketball award winner.
Livers is the first player from Kalamazoo Central to win that prestigious award.
Voting for this year’s award was razor close with over 1,200 coaches voting.
Livers, who will play at Michigan next season, edged out Michigan State-bound Xavier Tillman of Grand Rapids Christian by just 72 points in the voting.
Tillman had 30 more first-place votes, but Livers had more second and third place votes.
Interestingly, Livers, who averaged 17.5 points, 14 rebounds and 4.5 assists a game will face off against Tillman on Tuesday night as K-Central has a state quarterfinal matchup against Grand Rapids Christian Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
