Athlete of the Week: Jonathan Wolf
PORTAGE, Mich. —
Baseball season is finally here and for the Portage Northern Huskies that means a new batch of leaders has taken the reins and senior Jonathan Wolf is leading the pack.
The Portage Northern Huskies can boast 12 seniors on the 2018 baseball team and Wolf is rising to the top with his leadership.
Baseball is a game built on failure. Going 3 for 10 at the plate is above average, but don't tell that to Wolf.
He said, "It's a tough balance, ‘cause having that mindset, it's doing everything perfectly. Doing everything the best you can't and in baseball, sometimes you can't. Most likely you can't.”
A self-proclaimed perfectionist, Wolf is coming into his own as a leader for the Huskies.
Wolf said, "I know I can push myself to do the best I can, but I really want to find the best in what others have. Cause I know it’s so great. I want to bring that to the team. And through this leadership role, I feel I really have the capability and ability to do that."
His coach is taking notice
Portage Northern Baseball Coach Chris Andrews said, “He's really stepped up. You always want your seniors to be your leaders. Sometimes you get seniors that don't really take that, but he has. He has stepped up and become a great leader for us."
The perfectionism doesn't end on the field. Wolf is a 4.0 student, and says he always has been
Wolf said, "I think it's really how I've been raised. I've always been brought up, 'do the best you can always do.' and I think the best for me is doing that 4.0"
But baseball is a love and to keep this season going would be perfect.
Wolf said, "Having that opportunity is something I've really been dreaming of, since, you know, having that idea of even going that far.”
