Tigers name former catcher Ausmus new manager

DETROIT (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Tigers name Brad Ausmus as their new manager. The former Tiger worked in San Diego the last three seasons as a special assistant to the general manager.
The 44-year-old also managed team Israel in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
Ausmus, who of course succeeds Jim Leyland was given jersey no. 7 Sunday at his introductory press conference. General Manager Dave Dombrowski said of Ausmus, "Brad had a long-standing career as a player and we feel that he'll relate well with the current players. We were most impressed with Brad's preparation and leadership. We're confident brad is the right person to lead our team and continue the recent success of the Tigers organization."
A quick look now at the playing career of Brad Ausmus, the former catcher, played 18 seasons in the big leagues. The three-time Gold Glover played the majority of his career in Houston, but was a Tigers All-Star during his second stint with the team back in 1999.
