TENNESSEE (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A Tennessee high school's talented basketball team is out of the running for the state championship after an adult was found posing as a student and playing on the team.
Authorities say the 22-year-old man used a fake transcript and got his wife to pretend to be his guardian so he could enroll at the school.
When the state found out the entire team was disqualified just as they rose to number three in the state.
The discovery was made following an investigation into other school documents.
Parents say they plan to protest.
“It's absurd. The admin has failed. They're not keeping the kids safe. They're not doing checks and balances,” said one parent.
This is the latest in a series of troubles for the team. Last week the assistant coach was killed in his home and the week before the entire team was benched for fighting on the court.
