NEWSCHANNEL 3 - Small knives will soon be allowed on planes, following an announcement from the TSA on Tuesday.

The announcement shocked many people, including flight attendants who call the move "dangerous" and "short-sighted."

But the TSA says the changes will bring the US into alignment with international rules.

The knives must have blades that are six centimeters or shorter and less than half an inch in width.

Razor blades and box cutters will still be banned.

Passengers will also be able to carry on sports equipment for the first time since 9/11.

That includes up to two golf clubs, ski poles, hockey and lacrosse sticks and pool cues.

The changes take effect April 25th.
