Public forum on Allied Paper site

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - City leaders and hazardous material experts are trying to figure out how to clean up the allied paper mill site in Kalamazoo. Tonight, they asked for the public's input.
It comes after the Environmental Protection Agency announced it will not remove contaminated soil from the site. Now city leaders are trying to come up with clean-up alternatives.
The main concern is that the site sits above the aquifer from which the city draws a major portion of its drinking water.
"The bottom line is it does not belong next to people and we are not going to have it," Kalamazoo Mayor Bobby Hopewell says. "We're going to stand strong stand tall, and do what we have to do."
No final decisions were made Monday night.
