New abortion law to take effect Sunday

LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A new abortion law takes effect in Michigan on Sunday.
All abortion clinics in Michigan are now required to have a state license.
Clinics will also have to make sure the woman asking for an abortion is doing it of her own free will and not being pressured by someone else to have one.
That's the tricky part: providers now have to notify patients that it's illegal for anyone to force them to have an abortion. But according to state law, no such "crime" currently exists.
Anti-abortion advocates expect legislators to pass a bill that criminalizes coercing a woman into having an abortion sometime this year.
Until that happens, critics say the law that goes into effect Sunday will be hard to enforce.
Other regulations in the new law clarify how to properly dispose of fetal remains.
