HOLLAND, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 14-year-old runaway is back home Wednesday night, and a man is behind bars, facing sexual assault charges.

28-year-old Matthew Mahaney was arrested on charges unrelated to the incident, and was booked in the Ottawa County Jail.

Newschannel 3 was told that Mahaney would likely face third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges on Thursday.

Police say they found Mahaney and the young girl at the Wooden Shoe Motel in Holland, after the girl had been on the run for a week.

The girl's mother is now warning other parents about being hyper-vigilant about what your kids are doing online.

Last Wednesday, the girl, who reportedly had a penchant for dating websites, such as Plenty of Fish, disappeared without warning.

The girl's mother told Newschannel 3 that the girl claimed she was 18.

She says the girl's 16-year-old sibling got into her Plenty of Fish account and found conversations with Mahaney about meeting up and taking off.

The girl's mother received texts from a pay-as-you-go phone, but whether it was Mahaney or the girl sending them wasn't clear.

Between texts of distant travels and Facebook, police were able to determine that the two likely never left Holland.

When officers started randomly checking hotels, they say a clerk ID'd Mahaney, and when police went to the room, the 14-year-old answered the door.

Mahaney is expected to be arraigned Thursday on six charges, including the criminal sexual conduct charge.
