BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Battle Creek family waiting for justice will have to wait even longer.
The family of Ian Millard, a man who police say was shot and killed by his roommate back in December, sat in court Monday morning.
They hoped to see Robert Reno, the accused killer, there to face a judge.
But that's not what happened. Millard's family heard that Reno might take a plea deal Monday and they were outraged because it meant Reno could get a lesser sentence.
But instead the court announced Reno would not face a judge at all Monday and that his court date was being pushed back.
We saw the entire family immediately let out a sigh of frustration. They told us they've been waiting for justice for four months now.
Back in December, 24-year-old Millard died in his driveway from a gun shot wound to the back. Police say Reno, his roommate, shot him after an argument at the Fire and Ice Bar across the street from their home in Battle Creek.
We talked to the mother of Millard's young daughter after court Monday. She says she hates to think their daughter will never know her father and she can't believe it's taken this long for reno to get sentenced for his murder.
“It's hard to live every day without him, he's not there. She just had her first birthday and then they keep lingering on and lingering on and it's not going anywhere and it's not doing nothing for us but making us more miserable,” said Tancy Vosborg.
If Reno takes the plea deal we're told he could get less than two years in jail.
The court date will be rescheduled sometime next week. We'll be sure to keep you updated.
