PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Dozens of runners in Boston on Monday were from right here in West Michigan, and many were close enough to see--and feel--the blast.
Tuesday night, several of them are back home, and showing their solidarity by taking part in a run at the Celery Flats in Portage.
It is expected that some of the near 40 West Michigan runners that were in Boston would be there.
Being a close knit community, the organizers of the run said they wanted to do the half-mile run in tribute of the victims of the bombing, and all the runners Monday who didn't get to finish the last mile of the marathon they worked so hard for.
The runners back home in Kalamazoo scrambled Monday to make sure all their friends were okay, and as far as the running clubs know, no one from southwest Michigan who was there was hurt.
