WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Stocks edged higher Friday after good news from the Labor Department.

The unemployment rate fell to 7.7 percent, it was announced Friday, the lowest level in 4 years.

The jobless rate in Michigan is still higher, at 8.9 percent.

Employers added nearly 250,000 jobs in February, the biggest one month gain in six years.

Noisy construction sites are becoming music to the ears of unemployed Americans, as a rise in building is fueling a hiring boom.

There were also big improvements in manufacturing and the retail industry.

While this is good news for the economy, many Americans are still struggling to find work.
