KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Consumer fireworks may be a thing of the past for people in Kalamazoo Township.
The board of trustees is considering a ban on fireworks throughout the year, except for the 30 days allowed by state law.
M-Live is reporting that on Monday the township attorney was asked to draft an ordinance for the ban.
The Michigan Fireworks Safety Act says consumer grade fireworks are legal to purchase and use in Michigan. But, the act also gives local communities the authority to regulate it.
The townships proposed ordinance is similar to the one Kalamazoo City Commissioners adopted last year.
