PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A high school student is launching a rape prevention campaign after her own terrifying experience.
18-year-old Lauren Kyle of Portage says she was raped last summer by a friend she knew for years.
Lauren is overcoming what happened by launching a campaign called "No Means No" at Portage Northern High School.
She's planning to make 1,000 ribbons to sell at school this week to raise awareness and money for charity.
Lauren's hoping to turn her experience into something positive.
"I just want to be a role model and have more people learn about it. Don't hide it, that's the worst thing you can do is hide it and not let anybody know what happened," said Kyle.
Lauren says the boy, who was 15 at the time, was charged and later pleaded guilty to gross indecency.
He's scheduled for sentencing on April 19th.
