CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Calhoun County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a violent crash that shut down part of a major highway for hours.
It happened on southbound I-69 near Michigan Avenue just after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, near Marshall.
Police say the driver of a semi-truck attempted to make an illegal u-turn when the driver of a pickup truck rammed into the back of the semi.
The 25-year-old driver of the pickup truck was air-lifted from the scene and remains at Bronson hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
One lane re-opened to traffic after about an hour-and-a-half, relieving some congestion, but both lanes of traffic did not re-open until several hours later.
