KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police are searching for a trained fighter accused of nearly beating his girlfriend to death.
Police say 41-year-old Arthur Payne should be considered dangerous.
He's accused of attacking his girlfriend, leaving her with severe head injuries.
Court records show Payne has a violent history with women.
Newschannel 3 has confirmed that since 1998, three women have filed personal protection orders against Payne, all of them telling virtually the same story--that of a long-term relationship that turned jealous and abusive.
Handwritten statements from two of the women paint a picture of very volatile relationships.
In the protection request from 2007, a former girlfriend says Payne threatened to kill her if she called the cops.
She wrote: "(If) I'm not protected, I know Art will attempt to kill me again--please help me."
The other woman, from 2001, says he accused her of cheating on him and he put his knee in her chest, covered her mouth, and asked her how it would feel to die from suffocation.
Only protection orders in 1998 and 2007 were granted.
The 2001 request was denied for lack of evidence.
This is just a small part of what Newschannel 3 found in the court files on Tuesday.
