Couple seeks answers in son
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A couple found hope Friday night as they prayed for answers in their son's death.

Kalamazoo County investigators say Kayin Sato fell from a 3rd story balcony to his death last Tuesday night at Canterbury Apartments in Oshtemo Township.

on Friday night, the family held a vigil at the apartment complex, hoping to encourage someone with information to come forward.

Sato's father says he was approached by someone Friday who gave him information to suggest his son's death was not an accident.

Candles and a wreath marked the spot Sato fell to his death, but for some, the vigil was about more than remembrance.

"I'm hoping someone will come forward with information about the surrounding of his death, cause right now, we don't know much," said Sato's mother, Regina Young.

Young says to this point, police seem to believe her son's death was an accident, and that investigators believe the metal guardrail simply gave way, causing him to fall to his death.

Young says that Canterbury Apartments is pushing the family toward the possibility that it was foul play, but Newschannel 3 was unable to reach management for confirmation or explanation.

While we were on-scene at the vigil Friday night, Sato's father, Charles Young may have gotten the news they were looking for.

"A tenant who wants to remain anonymous just said that he spoke with Detective Sparrow of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department two days ago, and told him that he heard a scuffle on the balcony outside of our son's door," Charles said. "Five seconds later, he heard a thud."

The sheriff's office told Newschannel 3 that at this point, they could neither confirm nor deny the report of the anonymous witness.

As soon as we get a definitive answer, we will be certain to pass it along.
