BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Battle Creek emergency management gives citizens the chance to take an active role when disaster strikes.
The first session of training for the Community Emergency Response Team kicked off Friday night at the Department of Public Works.
The program handles what to do in case of fire, natural disasters, and search and rescue situations.
"This helps our trained volunteers to help prepare themselves, family, and ultimately their whole community, especially the first 72 hours, for any type of event," said Battle Creek Emergency Manager Mike McKenzie.
Additional classes will be held Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and Saturday April 20th from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Department of Public Works in Battle Creek.
You must stay for the entire class to receive a certificate.
Again, the classes are free, and lunch is provided.
