COLDWATER, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Someone attempted to grab an officer's holstered weapon over the weekend during a call on Pierce street.

Police were investigating a domestic assault and battery call between a boyfriend and girlfriend. While arresting 24 year old Armando Valencia, “He became argumentative and pushed an officer,” said Mark Bartell, Director of Public Safety, City of Coldwater.

That’s when police say his friend, 25 year old Scott Horn grabbed an officer’s fully loaded handgun.

“That started a wrestling match. It took a couple minutes to subdue Horn and pull his grip loose from the handgun. We train specifically for techniques to prevent that,” said Bartell.

A judge set a high bond for 25 year old Horn Tuesday, charging him with three counts of resisting and obstructing and attempted peace officer - disarming firearm.

24 year old Valencia is charged with Domestic Violence and two counts of resisting and obstructing.

Thankfully no officers were hurt during this incident.

Police say it appears both men were under the influence of alcohol.Coldwater police investigate alleged gun grab during weekend call
