(NEWSCHANNEL 3) – There is a news alert to pass along Wednesday morning, warning Fifth Third Bank customers about a new scam.
The bank is warnings its customers not to reply to text messages or emails that claim their accounts are being suspended or canceled.
Fifth Third is calling it a phishing scam. Phishing is the act of trying to get someone's username and password by pretending to be a certain company.
These messages are aimed at gaining access to Fifth Third Bank customers' account information.
According to Fifth Third's website, clicking on a phishing address infects the users computer with a virus which is activated the next time that person logs on to their online banking.
