Unaccompanied children at border sparking protests in Ariz., Mich.

Updated: Tuesday, July 15, 2014

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An estimated 57,000 unaccompanied children have flooded across the U.S. border, fleeing violence in Central America since October.

They are overwhelming the immigration court system and where to house the minors is just one of the flash points in the debate.

Congress has until the end of the month to act on proposed legislation before its August recess.

The Department of Homeland Security says the border patrol will run out of money by mid-August if something isn't done before then.

In the meantime, protestors near Tucson, Arizona, and Vassar, Michigan, are angry that the children are being transported to their towns to be housed and processed for deportation.
