U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization: Eat more bugs story image

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - With the world's population projected to jump from 7.2 billion to 9.6 billion by 2050, the question remains: how do we feed everyone?

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has a surprising answer: bugs.

The organization says insects have protein, good fats, calcium, iron and zinc, which makes them competitors for chicken, pig and cow meat.

Bugs are also easier on the environment.

And get this, eighty percent of the countries around the world are already embracing insect cuisine.

The western world so far is the only holdout.

But that is slowly changing. Some restaurants in major cities are dishing up items like grasshopper tacos.
