KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - We all have fears, and we're forced to face many of them every day.

Others, we try to avoid.

But what if there were a simple cure to overcome those fears which did not require doctors or medication?

In a Newschannel 3 special report, we take a closer look at how one clinic is helping people overcome longtime phobias in just a matter of minutes.

For Jules Follett, a 10-minute treatment has given her a new perspective on life.

"For me, to be able to get over that irrational fear was really empowering, and life changing," she said.

The photographer was limited in her work for years, due to an overwhelming fear of heights.

"I was really limited because I could not get those shots from above," Follett said.

It was a fear that she'd go to great lengths to avoid facing.

"Weakness in the knees, light-headedness, nausea," she explained.

But Follett says that fear now no longer exists, thanks to the fast phobia cure.

It's a technique used by trained neuro-linguistic programmers Joel Bowman and Debra Basham.

"When people relax, possibilities open up," Basham said.

The duo has helped dozens of people overcome fears without medication or long term therapy.

"People who were weeping about their phobia before things started were saying, 'Gee, I don't know, I'll have to think about it; I'll have to wait and see,'" Bowman said. "If people say, 'I don't know if (they're) afraid or not,' means it's working."

Both are trained hypno-therapists.

"All of the sudden with fear, now possibilities are closed off," Basham explained.

She also uses a practice called "healing touch." All forms of mind-body communication.

"My goal is, I am a really good listener, a really good observer; I pay attention to the things they cant see," she said.

"I think a lot of them are surprised that the phobia that they found so limiting is gone, they have to restructure their lives now that they are phobic-free," Bowman said.

Follett is now traveling the world, seeing and doing things she never thought possible.

"I have been to Dubai twice now, everything is up, I like being able to do that and enjoy it so much," she said.

And she's been snapping photos along the way.

"I went right up in the elevator, and had not one of those symptoms," she said.

Now she's back facing new fears, from driving on the highway to crossing bridges with the help of this pair and the fast phobia cure.

"For a single individual most people are cured in 10 minutes," Bowman said.

Joel and Debra tell us their approach is starting to gain momentum.
