10 AM Until 2 AM Saturday

The National Weather Service maintains a WIND ADVISORY for nearly all of West Michigan from 10 AM this morning until 2 AM Saturday morning.  45 mph gusts are likely inland while 50 mph gusts are possible at the Lake Shore.  This kind of wind is capable of bringing down tree branches and creating some power outages.  Obviously, we hope that doesn't happen.  Winds blow from the northwest this morning then from the north by midday and beyond.  Stay with for your weather today and always!

Muskegon River to be surveyed for sea lamprey story image

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - Federal scientists are preparing to examine a portion of the Muskegon River to determine what steps are needed to control sea lamprey, an invasive fish parasite.
The Muskegon Chronicle reports that a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service crew will survey the river in Muskegon County between July 30 and Aug. 6 to estimate the sea lamprey population.
Sea lampreys resemble eels but have mouths like suction cups with sharp teeth. They fasten to the sides of fish and feed on their blood and body fluids, often killing the host.
Biologists study hundreds of Great Lakes streams each year to determine which need lamprey treatments. A poison has been developed that kills larval lampreys in tributaries where they spawn.
