Fruit growers getting disaster relief story image

WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Fruit growers whose crops were damaged by extreme weather in 2012 will be able to apply for disaster relief from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow announced Monday that federal relief funds will be extended to growers who did not have access to crop insurance.

Frost and freezes in 2012 destroyed crops, including cherries and apples across Michigan.

Eligible farmers can apply for assistance starting Tuesday at their local Farm Service Agency Office.

Applications will be accepted through September 22nd.
