KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A family is mourning, after a teenager is gunned down in a Kalamazoo street.

19-year-old Chris Adams was shot and killed on Mt. Olivet road, in the Burke Acres neighborhood.

Today Rob Adams and his family were planning his sons funeral. It was just last summer Chris Adams graduated high school, with so much ahead of him.

"He's always usually so fun loving and normally people gravitate toward him because of his personality," says Rob Adams.

He says his son was getting back on track after drug issues in high school. Now he was active in his church and most enjoyed playing with the neighborhood kids.

"Even in his graduation pictures a lot of the neighbors kids were in the pictures, they wanted to be in the pictures and they just loved him," says Adams.

He says no one knows what his son was doing on Mt. Olivet street last night when the shooting started. By the time police arrived there was no one still there but minutes later a car dropped Chris Adams at the Borgess emergency room.

Family and friends received the news last night.

"My heart just dropped and sank and I was like oh my gosh, I couldn't imagine how his mom and dad and brother feels. It's just sad to hear that, I've known him my whole life, he's like a little brother, he's 19-years-old so yeah it hurts," says friend Michael Bickings.

Police canvassed what is normally a quiet street where the shooting happened and searched with dogs for evidence.

"It was great to have him as a son…now he's in a better place, so I would have to say that's the biggest thing. He's in a better place," says Rob Adams.

Police don’t yet have anyone in custody for the shooting.
