Clerk fires back at armed robber at Norton Shores gas station

Updated: Monday, July 14, 2014

NORTON SHORES, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Norton Shores Police are searching for a suspect in an armed robbery who may be wounded.

Police say the clerk at the Shell gas station in the 2,000 block of Henry Street Monday morning fired off at least 10 rounds saying he was afraid.

Police say the incident began when the suspect entered the front door wearing dark clothing, a ski mask over his face and was carrying a dark revolver.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register then ordered the clerk into the back room where he loaded cigarettes into a backpack.

The clerk, a 24-year old Muskegon Heights resident then pulled out his own handgun and started firing at the suspect.

The suspect took off in a newer model black Chevrolet four door which was parked on the north end of the building.

There was a second suspect driving the vehicle but no description was obtained.

It's not clear if the suspect may have been wounded.

If anyone has any information regarding this robbery call they're urged to call Silent Observer (231-722-7463) or the Norton Shores Police Department (231-733-2691).
