MADISON, Wisc. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are helping search for alien life forms.

They aren't looking in space, though, but rather right here on Earth.

They're studying rocks billions of years old for information hidden inside the stones that could guide the search for life on Mars.

Their research hasn't led to aliens yet, but it's already uncovering more information about our planet's history.

They've found new details about microbial life that dates back more than 2 billion years.
