Second anniversary for tsunami in Japan

Updated: Monday, March 11 2013, 08:41 AM EDT
JAPAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – People in Japan are marking the second anniversary of the deadly earthquake and tsunami that killed nearly 19,000 people Monday morning.

Just before 2:00 a.m. Japan's Emporer led a moment of silence for the victims.

It's now two years later and more than 300,000 people are still displaced by the damage, with very little rebuilding started.

That 9.0 magnitude earthquake was the strongest ever recorded in Japan.

Memorial services are planned throughout the day.
