WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A couple of republican senators are declaring their support for a bill that would expand background checks for gun buyers.
That proposal was put together by democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and republican Senator Patrick Toomey of Pennsylvania.
They also hit the airways this weekend to drum up support.
Right now only three republican senators are expected to vote for the compromise bill.
Meantime, Arizona republican John McCain says he is considering the legislation, but says a lot more needs to be done in the area of mental health.
