President wraps up day 2 of middle east visit

Updated: Thursday, March 21 2013, 08:51 PM EDT
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - President Obama has wrapped up the second day of his visit to the middle east.

He attended a state dinner in Jerusalem, after urging young Israelis to compromise for peace.

The President spoke to Israeli college students about their role in creating peace in the middle east.

He promised that as long as there is a United States of America, they are not alone.

The President also said that peace between Israel and the Palestinians is possible with compromise.

"Israelis must recognize that continued settlement activity is counterproductive to the cause of peace, and that an independent Palestine must be viable, and that real borders will have to be drawn," the President said to some applause Thursday.

President Obama wrapped up his day toasting Israeli leaders at a state dinner.

Friday, he plans to visit holy sites in Israel before heading to neighboring Jordan.
