Plane runs off Georgia runway, five dead

THOMPSON, Ga. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Five people are dead and two more injured after a small jet ran off the end of a runway in Georgia.

It happened in Thompson, in eastern Georgia around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Federal aviation officials say the Hawker Beechcraft was landing when it ran off the runway and crashed with seven people on board.

Police say two survivors were taken to the hospital, and their conditions are not known.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
