Pistorius cries in court as charges outlined

PRETORIA, South Africa (NEWSHCHANNEL 3) - Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius cried in court as prosecutors outlined their plans to try him for premeditated murder.

His attorneys, meanwhile, insist that he accidentally shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Tuesday was the first day of his preliminary hearing in South Africa.

In an affidavit, Pistorius claims he felt vulnerable because he was not wearing his prosthetic legs and believed there was an intruder in the house.

He fired four shots through the bedroom door.

But prosecutors say he was wearing the prosthetic legs, walked across the room and fired the shots into the bathroom, knowing she was cowering inside.

The hearing continues Wednesday.
