Updated: Wednesday, February 6 2013, 07:20 PM EST
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Pentagon is looking at some serious budget cuts that will deeply affect the military and the country's economy.

If Congress doesn't pass a budget, the Pentagon will face $46 billion in spending reductions in this fiscal year, and face a $35 billion shortfall in operating expenses.

Military services are bracing for the cuts.

They're looking at widespread furloughs, layoffs, and hiring freezes.
