Officials: Israel moving troops toward Gaza border story image
JERUSALEM (AP) - Defense officials say Israel has begun sending troop reinforcements to its border with the Gaza Strip amid intensifying rocket barrages.

Israel has been debating how to respond to the killing of three Israeli teens in the West Bank, which it blames on Hamas. It has arrested hundreds of Hamas members in the West Bank and threatened tough action against the militant group, which controls Gaza.

The increase in troops could be in preparation for a wider operation or meant as a defensive action.

More than a dozen rockets struck southern Israel early Thursday, hitting two houses and causing damage but not wounding anyone. Israel responded with airstrikes.

The defense officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter with the media.
