WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES start shortly for all of West Michigan for an accumulation of snow followed by sleet and freezing rain and even plain rain.  The ADVISORIES last until 8 PM everywhere save for Berrien, Cass, St. Joe, and Branch counties where the expiration time is 1 PM.  Snowfall ranges from 1" to 3" near and south of I-96 including Kalamazoo.  North of I-96, amounts may be greater in a range from 2" to 4".  Once snow transitions to freezing rain, ice accumulations of 1/10" perhaps upwards of 2/10" are possible.  Plus, secondary and back roads are likely to remain icy even when air temperatures reach the middle 30s this afternoon.  Please be careful traveling!

Mother, son survive sinkhole in Illinois

BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ill. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A mother and son survived driving their car right into a sinkhole.

It happened when San Juanita Pineda and her son, 15-year-old Benjamin Hernandez, were delivering newspapers in Burlington Township, Illinois, during Tuesday morning's storms.

The 9-1-1 call the mother made has just been released.

As she was on the phone, a pickup truck flew over her car.

The driver came back to the scene to see if everyone was okay.

The 15-year-old boy suffered a fractured spine, broken ribs, a broken jaw and nose, and right arm; his front teeth are also missing.

His eye is damaged and he has a big cut on his left leg, but family is just happy that the injuries weren't worse.
