Mechanical failure strands cruise ship for 2 extra days in Gulf of Mexico

Updated: Wednesday, February 13 2013, 12:38 PM EST
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - About 3,000 cruise ship passengers are spending a few extra days at sea, after their ship broke down in the Gulf of Mexico.

Two tugboats are now working to tow the ship to Mobile, Alabama.

The Coast Guard says the Carnival Cruise Lines ship Carnival Triumph had a fire in its engine room on Sunday.

Since then, passengers have been living with limited power and no running water or air conditioning in their cabins.

The ship should make landfall in Alabama on Thursday.

No one was hurt, but they may be annoyed by their ruined vacations.
