Mayor of Santa Fe endorses same-sex marriage

SANTA FE, N.M. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Mayor of Santa Fe, New Mexico has announced his support for same-sex marriage, and is now encouraging city clerks to start doling out marriage licenses to couples, regardless of their sex.

Mayor David Coss says New Mexico doesn't define marriage strictly between a man and a woman.

He says the state recognizes same-sex marriages from other states, so it might as well recognize them in Santa Fe.

Same-sex marriage is likely to face opposition in the state from Republican New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez, who has gone on record against legalizing the practice.
